Abstract

Portable cultural properties are cultural, artistic and ethnographic objects considered valuable nationally and universally. Its importance and value are closely related to the geography it is located in and the culture, lifestyle and spiritual values it belongs to. Societies have tried to preserve, protect and pass on these objects to future generations. This act of protection was sometimes consciously created according to the specific object; sometimes it was unconsciously transferred by showing and telling it to the people around it. Traditional textiles, which are generally produced for the needs of people in their lives, are evaluated as cultural representatives that tell the story of traditional life when examined in terms of technique, pattern, color, composition order and harmony. Therefore, documentation, record keeping, and archiving processes and methods are very important in the conservation approaches and studies prepared for the sustainability of this cultural heritage. This study discusses the importance of cultural heritage on a universal and national level. Documentation methods for the protection and sustainability of cultural properties are explained. The techniques, types, documentation processes and reasons for the necessity of historical/ ethnographic/ traditional textiles, which constitute an important area of cultural heritage, were examined. In the study descriptive survey method was used. The research data was collected by literature review. Printed scientific sources such as theses, books, journals and articles on the subject were used during the collection of data. Today, considering that some raw materials and techniques have changed or are not even used traditional textiles, the importance of recording data becomes evident.
